Kangra, the nerve center of Himachal Pradesh politics and the largest district in the state, has turned into a battleground for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and Aam Admi Party, while the faction-ridden main rival party – Congress is still lying low. today in his second visit to his home state in less than a fortnight, BJP national president JP Nadda led a roadshow before addressing a rally at Nagrota Bagwan in Kangra. The BJP rally and roadshow were conducted just before the Aam Aadmi Party national convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s rally at Shahpur in the district.
Kangra is the district that paves the way for the power of Himachal Pradesh. Out of the 68 MLAs of Himachal, 15 come from the Kangra district. Nadda, who is beaming with confidence after BJP’s win in four states, is aware that winning assembly elections in his home state of Himachal is crucial not only for the party but for him too. He has fully turned his focus towards the hill state, where the Saffron Party is facing internal challenges and will have to battle anti-incumbency as well.
Today hitting out at congress JP Nadda said that the Congress party has always snatched the rights of Himachal, they never gave what Himachal should have got. Whereas the BJP has always protected the rights of Himachal. He said that Congress was the party that took away the special category status from Himachal Pradesh in the year 1987. He said that BJP has done work for the country while Congress party workers waste their time talking about casteism, communalism, and nepotism. He said Jai Ram Thakur’s government is an accountable government.
Kangra gave Himachal its first non-Congress chief minister when BJP formed the government under the leadership of Shanta Kumar in 1977. However, infighting may hurt BJP in the district, where former minister Ramesh Dhawala and state organization secretary Pavan Rana are at daggers drawn. However, BJP has refuted any assertion of a threat to the party.
