The School of Law of Shoolini University launched the ‘Shoolini Debate and Discussion Society” (SDDS) to encourage and develop debating skills in the students which is the most important aspect for a professional lawyer.
The Society organised a debate on the topic of ‘Are media trials in contravention of Article 21 of the Indian Constitution’.
Justice SS Thakur, former Judge, High Court of Himachal Pradesh was the Patron in Chief and Prof N.K. Gupta, Dean, School of Law was a Patron.
Justicee SS Thakur, congratulated the winners and said these young lawyers are the future of the nation. He also shared his greetings on the occasion of Teachers day.
Teams were placed both against and for the Motion. “Team Ravenclaw” headed by Ms Pallavi of BALLB 5th Semester and Mr Goutam Sharma, 3rd Semester was declared the Best Team and Mr Goutam Sharma, was declared the Best Speaker.
The team for the motion, “Team Gryffindor”, with Mr. Rajdeep Mann, 3rd Semester and Ms. Nishtha, 3rd Semester stood second. The judges of the event were Dr H K Verma, Principal Jagran Law College, Dehradun and Mr Amar Rao, Faculty in Shoolini University.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof P K Khosla, has congratulated all the winners and team SDDS, School of Law for creating such an excellent society to produce future lawyers. The Society will act as a forum to the students to foster critical thinking and to improve their communication skills.
Dr. Nandan Sharma, Head School of Law, said, debate competition would be organised every Wednesday 4 to 5 PM online till pandemic and offline after resumption of physical classes. He also said that we sincerely put our efforts in to making this endeavour highly successful. The event was attended by the faculty of law department including Dean Prof NK Gupta, Ms Anupriya Thakur, Ms Monika Thakur, Ms Swati Soni, Mr Mohammad Bitar and Mr. Ahmad Khalil etc.
Mr Shubham Sharma, Assistant Professor, Law and Secretary SDDS, were instrumental in carving out the whole concept and he would be driving the effort along with the support of faculty and students.
