A two-day district-level farmers seminar was organized by the Department of Seed Science and Technology (SST), Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry(UHF), Nauni in association with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Mandi at Sundernagar.
The seminar was held under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture’s MIDH) ‘Developmental programs on Spices and Aromatic Plants’, MoA, Govt of India.
The seminar was held to promote large-scale scientific cultivation of spices like garlic, ginger, turmeric, coriander, and fenugreek. Farmers, mostly farm women attended the two-day event.
Dr. Manish Sharma, Dr. Narender Bharat, and Dr. Rohit Verma, scientists of the Department of SST were the resource persons.
The farmers were apprised of the scientific cultivation of spices.
The participants were also acquainted with the advantages which the climatic conditions of the state offer for the cultivation of various spices.
A farmer scientist interaction was also held on the second day where Dr. Pankaj Sood (in charge), Dr. Shakuntla Rahi and Kavita Sharma, all scientists of the KVK, along with the scientists of UHF addressed the queries of the farmers on various aspects of agriculture and horticulture.
This project has been implemented by the university since 2015.
The university has been regularly promoting the cultivation of spices among the farmers and every year, a district-level seminar and three block-level seminars are held under the project.
