On the occasion of International Criminal Justice Day, School of Law, Shoolini University has launched a ‘Knowledge Sharing Series’ in which School of Law, will be interviewing great legal luminaries like Jurists, Advocates, Academicians and Corporates on various legal topics like Cybercrime, Fundamental Rights, Human Rights, Right to Health and many more.

The first session was piloted by Prof Sebastian Lafrance from Canada on the topic ‘How similar are Indian and Canadian law’s’. he shared with the audience that in a way India and Canada are long lost siblings as there are many similarities in both county’s law.  The Constitution of Canada also provides the right to equality to its people as embodied in the Indian Constitution.

Prof. Lafrance further added, in the field of criminal laws, there are various differences and similarities between Indian and Canadian laws. The provision of anticipatory bail is unique in the Indian penal code as is not provided by the Canadian criminal code (CCC). The death penalty still existing in the Code of criminal procedure and IPC in India is also a point of difference between both the countries as Canadian Criminal Code do not provide for capital punishment.

The Moderator of the interview was Dr. Nandan Sharma, Head School of Law. He said interview was extremely knowledgeable for the students of Law and all other viewers across the country.

Dr. Nandan further added that the coming series of this event would feature various other topics relevant to Indian lawyers and students like fundamental rights, and patent laws. The interviews are being conducted virtually and uploaded on our Youtube channel at 7 PM every alternate day and being viewed by thousands of viewers across the globe.

Next in the series are Adv. Sarthak Mehta, Hon’ble High Court of Himachal Pradesh which would be premiered next week, followed by Prof. Devender Singh, Professor, PU Chandigarh, Prof. Nishtha Jaswal, Vice-Chancellor HPNLU, Ms. Junaita Headley, Attorney New York, Mr. Essenese Obhan, Managing Partner Obhan Associates, New Delhi.
